This page lists information about starbases, outposts, and stations (a simple alphabetic list can be viewed at Category:Station).

Note that while the majority of stations are open to all new pilots, some are dependent upon your faction with the owner and these vary. Stations (and stargates) owned by:

are off limits to almost all new pilots though there are some notable exceptions:

Jenquai Defender's and Jenquai Seeker's start their careers being friendly with the Red Dragons (though only the JD is high enough to use Red Dragon gates right from the start)
Terran Tradesmen start friendly with the Chavez
Non-Terran's start neutral with the Bogeril

Others will have to build up their faction/standing before they are allowed entry.

If you plan to become a professional builder of weaponry and/or ship equipment, the chances of your construction achieving a higher quality output, or a better success when analysing a new item, are thought to be improved the higher your faction standing is with the owners of the station. This is one of the reasons which makes Orsini Mining Platform a popular spot for builders: pilots from all races can easily improve their faction-standing with the owner, InfinitiCorp Traders, by handing in Manes Essence to Josher in the main lobby. Note for Progen pilots thinking of doing Agrippa training: it is not recommended for you to increase your InfinitiCorp faction until after your training is complete, as InfinitiCorp is a direct competitor of the Collegia Traders faction. You must be in Collegia's good books to pass Agrippa training.
