Description

The V'rix are an alien race which wants to force all humans away from the ancient star-gates. They are highly aggressive and intimidate by announcing a scan of your ship before attacking (they will attack you even if you are more powerful than they are). Their ships are insect-like and are usually observed flying in a squadron of six, in a hexagonal formation. They have studied their human enemy, tinker with human technology, and have a predilection for choosing names derived from the human Aztec culture.
They are an ancient species whose Empire spread and contracted thousands of years ago. They are a predatory species that came out from the coreward star clusters of the galaxy toward the rim and the spinward arms. They accomplished this using technology left by the first races – The Ancients. Much like humans, the V'rix stumbled upon the Star Gates. With this technology, the V'rix were like locusts, traveling from world to world, consuming native species, turning the planets into outposts of their Imperium.
V'rix society is task oriented. Each V'rix is genetically designed for a specific function or task. Even the Sovereign is designed by its predecessor to rule. V'rix Society ranges from extremely intelligent and completely autonomous ruling classes – the Regents – to non-intelligent bio-mechanical drones.
There is no advancement as such in V'rix society since the function of V'rix workers and drones does not change. Rewards for tasks well done are chemical enhancements. V'rix are designed to feel pleasure when a task is done well, fear when a failure occurs.
The V'rix are a driven and warlike species. Their original genetic predisposition was toward conquest of other races for their Masters, the Sharh. Somehow – at least with the collective that was imprisoned in gate-stasis at Deneb VII – the collective’s predisposition altered toward expansion of the collectives throughout the galaxy – if not the universe – for themselves.
They are not unlike invading locust in that respect. Their greatest advantage, however, is the collective's knowledge of the true nature of the Gates and the actual power the Gates possess.
Making Contact
By default, all new pilots have negative faction status with the V'rix. All V'rix are extremely aggressive towards their enemies and will attack you even if you have a significantly higher Combat Level (CL) than they do. Fortunately for younger pilots with lower CL's, V'rix are rigidly hive-minded and will always initiate a scan of your ship before attacking: you will be alerted by an alarm sound and a pop-up window. Pilots who are outgunned can easily warp away and avoid battle while the V'rix are conducting their scan, but departure must be initiated promptly.
V'rix ships will nearly always cruise in a hexagonal formation of six ships. When attacking you, they will circle your ship in an attempt to confuse your targeting efforts. Once fired upon, some or all of the V'rix ships will cluster together behind a lead ship, giving the appearance of a single ship. This can also confuse your targeting efforts for, as you kill more of the V'rix squadron, your chances of targeting a wreck instead of an attacking ship increase, because they are so close together they appear to be superimposed.
Pilots needing to leave their controls for a time should be careful not to do so in locations where V'rix are known to conduct patrols. Even if you have a higher Combat Level and good shields, a squadron of lower-CL V'rix may appear in what appeared to be a deserted area and proceed to slowly gnaw away at your shields without let-up. Even a strong ship can succumb to small-but-relentless V'rix attack if its pilot is out back in the galley, making coffee.
Gaining Friendly Faction
- Kill your own race/faction. The V'rix are hostile to all player factions. If you choose this method, damaging your InfinitiCorp faction (for example) is easily repaired by shooting Manes and handing in Manes Essence to Josher, located in the lobby of Orsini Mining Platform (OMP). Just keep an eye on your InfinitiCorp faction to be sure it does not drop below 2001, or you will not be allowed to dock at OMP.
- Have an alt or a friend kill lots of V'rix, especially low level ones. Collect the Chitin Bits that drop from the slain V'rix, and then trade those to the character needing its V'rix faction increased. When that alt takes the mission "Deliver Chitin Bits" and then hands the chitin bits in to the V'rix Oracle in Witberg, it will receive V'rix faction points.
- See Harvey Krum in Chernevog Station — he has three profession-specific missions which each give +200 V'rix faction, (e.g. Harvey Krum Chitin Bits trader mission).
- Caution: The V'rix are an ally of The Mordana faction. If you shoot Mordana ships, you will damage your V'rix faction.
- See the faction chart on Net-7.org website for any current change of status in alliances.
Sectors with Known Activity
Take care not to leave your ship console for coffee or other breaks while in a sector where V'rix patrols are known to occur. What can seem to be a nice quiet location in which to park can suddenly turn into a battleground if a V'rix squadron shows up. Even low CL V'rix will attack without respect to their own safety and, if your ship is unattended, even small enemies can do much damage over time.
- Akeron's Gate
- Aragoth Prime (CL17s show up at East gate to Muspelheim: do not park here)
- Endriago (isolated high-level V'rix Helkos ships are sometimes found in the asteroid fields to the far north of the Endriago planet nav).
- Fenris (you can even be attacked directly outside Fenris Prime Observatory)
- Jotunheim (low-level V'rix mainly at the southern gate)
- Primus
- Pr12t4r35m M4ns 1r21 (Pl1n2t Pr3m5s) (highly dangerous —it's a good idea to have a JE with the Group Cloak skill with you)
- Valkyrie Twins (CL26s patrol the south gate to Aragoth Prime)
- Glenn (CL 10-13s will spawn on you if you wait at a gate)
The above list may not list all V'rix locations. Please add sector names and details when found.
Modified Items
The V'rix are known to experiment with captured human technology, particularly weapons. V'rix-modified items may sometimes offer slightly better features, but not always. However, one clear benefit of such items is that once tinkered with by the V'rix, any usage restrictions on Jenquai or Progen items are removed, allowing these races to use the other's items (normally not possible).
All V'rix modified items are Non-Manufacturable, and cannot be analyzed by Builders.
Language
The V'rix have not entirely grasped the nuances of our language, and their translators broadcast messages to our ships in a fashion which seems suitable to them. Messages will typically be entirely capitalized, contain no spaces between words or punctuation, and will use numbers instead of vowels.

The code below will enable you to translate either:
- V'rix to English: This should work on any V'rix text obtained from the Wiki, Net-7 database, ENB Gearlist website, in-game, or from...
- English to V'rix: So you can have some fun role-playing your V'rixsona!
If you are not familiar with how to create a browser-readable file, follow these instructions:
- Create a text file on your desktop. If using Windows, you can right-click on the Desktop and select New > Text Document from the contextual menus.
- Name the file something like
vrixtran.txt
and open it. - Copy the code shown below, paste into the file, and save it.
<!DOCTYPE html> <html> <head> <title>Earth & Beyond - V'rix Bidirectional Translator</title> </head> <style> body { color: #ff0; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; background-image: url('https://net7wiki.bmsite.net/images/9/9a/Space_tile_bg.jpg'); } a { color: #fff; } input { color: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-weight: inherit; background-color: #000; } textarea { color: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-weight: inherit; background-color: #000; } </style> <body> <div align="center"> <p style="font-size:48px; margin-bottom: 0;">Earth & Beyond<br />V'rix Bidirectional Translator</p> <p style="font-style: italic; margin: 0; padding-top: 0;">Powered by one extremely underappreciated <a href="https://hitchhikers.fandom.com/wiki/Babel_Fish">Babel Fish</a></p> <form id="io" action="" autocomplete="off"> <p>Input:</p> <textarea name="i" rows="8" cols="80" placeholder="Enter text to translate..."></textarea><br> <input value="V'rix to English" type="button" onclick="codec(this.form, false);" /> <input value="English to V'rix" type="button" onclick="codec(this.form, true);" /><br><br> <p>Output:</p> <textarea name="o" rows="8" cols="80" readonly="readonly"></textarea><br> <input value="Reset" type="reset"> </form> <script type='text/javascript'> const VRIX='1\|2\|3\|4\|5\|6'; const ENGLISH='A\|E\|I\|O\|U\|Y'; function codec(io, encode) { let src = encode? ENBX: V'rix Decoder
This decoder works slightly differently and does not completely model the V'rix language used in-game. It allows spaces and some special characters.
https://www.enbx.com/decoder.htm
Morse Code
When encountering V'rix ships in space you might notice something odd about the sounds they're making. Those versed in Morse Code will recognize it as such, though very lightly disguised with some background noise.
While you can decipher this the old fashioned way (and if you're good with Morse Code it probably won't take you long!), nowadays there are tools you can run in a web browser that can do this task in real-time and filter out the noise with the right settings!
These recordings are saved as mp3's within the game files and then bundled together as mix files. The extraction of those is beyond the scope of this page, but you can find more info on that in the forums (e.g. Model Extraction or by searching for unmix).
The three audio clips I know of from the game files containing Morse Code are:
- a51_t000_mix_1.mp3
- a51_a000_mix_1.mp3
- a51_b000_mix_1.mp3
which are all three part of 'Data/client/mixfiles/mixfile_sound_35.mix' in the client files.
You can use these files as input to an online tool such as:
https://morsecode.world/international/decoder/audio-decoder-expert.html
and using the following settings:
- FFT size
- 256
- Display frequency range (Hz)
- 750 to 1000
- Filter volume range (db)
- -60 to -30
- Filter frequency range (Hz)
- 750 to 1000
- Volume threshold (0-255)
- 50
- Speed (wpm)
- 10
I was able to get it to decode them as follows:
- a51_t000_mix_1.mp3: GIVE US THE ANCIENT GATE
- a51_a000_mix_1.mp3: WE ARE THE V'RIX SURRENDER WHAT IS OURS
- a51_b000_mix_1.mp3: WE HAVE YOUR WARRIOR
The warrior referred to above is Centuriata Amah.
Missions
A small number of missions are issued by a V'rix called T2Z, who is located at Porvenir Mons, a Progen station on Primus Planet — now captured by the V'rix and renamed 1C4615H. It has been reported that you will need >=-1500 faction standing with the V'rix to be able to dock there. Pilots are warned that the V'rix planetside conduct regular patrols and are exrtremely hostile. Smaller scoutships will call in formations of CL50 and CL54 ships to your position. Visitors are strongly encouraged to travel with a JE who has the group-cloak skill.
Low Level
Available to pilots of OL>=30.
- Deliver V'rix Supplies (possibly new in 2022)
- S1CR3F3C2 (reported as new in the game patch of 29th March 2022)
High Level
Reported to require OL150.
- H4W 3S TH3S P4SS3BL2 ? - rewards you with the recipe to make the Aquitaine Codex (aka "Ardus Key"), needed to operate the stargate leading to Ardus sector.
It should be noted that T2Z has a penchant for Spiced Black Coffee, and you will need to give him a carton or two before he will give you certain (but not all) of these missions. The only place in the galaxy where it can be bought is Nostrand Vor Station and, as it isn't tradable, a personal visit there is required for those seeking missions from T2Z.
