Overview
Carpenter is a busy crossroad-sector, connecting with the Glenn, Slayton, and Shepard sectors in Beta Hydri, and also with New Edinburgh in the Tau Ceti system. It also contains a weft, making it easy to get to via wormhole (with the assistance of a medium-ranked Jenquai Explorer).
In this sector you will find the mighty Orsini Mining Platform (OMP) - the greatest ore harvesting rig ever built. After the Orsini Mining Corporation closed down their operation in Carpenter, they sold the rig to InfinitiCorp, which now uses it for military purposes and a forward base to keep a good balance in the struggle for power with the Chavez and Red Dragon pirates. OMP attracts many high-level pilots assembling for, or returning from, hunting safaris in the dangerous southern wilds of Beta Hydri. As many of these pilots are builders too, a thriving community of weaponsmiths, engineers, reactor technicians, and device-makers has grown up at the station. Newer pilots are advised to familiarise themselves with OMP early in their career, as this is the best place to obtain superior, pilot-crafted, better-than-vendor-quality ship equipment.
Local Features
The navpoints of this sector mainly follow a right-angled route between the barren planet Carpenter and its largest moon, Aurora 7. It hosts ore fields, a Chavez hideout (east of Aurora 7), an uncontrolled infestation of Scuttlebugs and a small group of aggressively territorial Claimjumpers, led by their boss, Claimjumper Joe (CL 24). You will also find a herd of Dzurais here (around Nav 3, adjacent to the weft) - beware if your ship can't withstand a good hammering: they pack a good punch and their spawn rate increases if you linger in their territory - moreso if you move about while attacking them.
Travel Warning
Newer pilots with a combat level under 20 should note that the southern gate to Shepard sector leads to space that is progressively more dangerous the further south you go: you have been warned!
