The Explorer class of each race has skills which include scanning, prospecting, and the use of a variety of devices and unique skills. Explorers' ships have five or, in the case of the Jenquai Explorer, six device slots.

Explorers' ships tend to have lighter hulls and fewer weapons, although each aspect varies by race. Their specialized skills such as Jumpstart, Call Forward, and Wormholes make them highly popular with other classes of pilot.
