From Net 7 Portal Wiki
More actions
Allows use of engines of a level equal to or below the skill level.
The Engine Tech skill is common to all pilots and is one of the three core skills which all pilots must train:
Engine Tech - only Terrans can train to Level 9; maximum for other races is Level 8.
Reactor Tech - only Jenquai can train to Level 9; maximum for other races is Level 8.
Shield Tech - only Progens can train to Level 9; maximum for other races is Level 8.
Unlike your ship's weapon or device slots which can be empty, your ship's engine, reactor, and shield slots must always fitted with an appropriate unit.

Notes
Certain pilots are able to train in the Build Engines skill, which enables them to build engines (with quality up to 200%).
Note that the L5 The Polar Express engine has a warp speed of 4000, the same as some of the better Level 8 engines. If you acquire one of those engines (available from a seasonal mission, available only for a short time during the Christmas period each year) you can apply skillpoints to other skills instead of Engine Tech.
Terrans, who can train Engine Tech to Level 9, may wish to give Engine Tech some training priority, as they are able to train to be able to use Level 9 engines (the fastest of which, the L9 Ursa NGC 9, has a warp speed of 5000).
