List of Faction Changes by Mob |

Overview
Your in-game character will automatically acquire either positive or negative standing with the various NPC factions in Earth and Beyond, depending on which Profession you have chosen to play.
NPC ships belonging to your faction, or an ally of your faction, will be displayed by your ship's scanner in green. Neutral ships are displayed in yellow/gold. Ships tagged with these colors will not fire at you, and you can enter any Stations controlled by friendly or neutral factions. The ships of enemy factions will be tagged with a red coloring, and will normally attack you as soon as they detect your ship (depending on their scanning ability and your ship's visibility). Stations controlled by enemy factions will not permit you to dock.
In order to lower your chances of detection by the ships of enemy factions, pilots without the Cloak skill may take steps to reduce their ship's radar signature.
Official Factions
These are the factions which are shown in-game under the Character Information Screen (Y) Factions tab and which can be increased or decreased through gameplay.
Player Factions
These correspond 1:1 with the nine player professions.
- Centuriata Warriors (the home faction for PWs)
- Collegia Traders (the home faction for PPs)
- EarthCorps Warriors (the home faction for TEs)
- Hyperia Explorers (the home faction for TSs)
- InfinitiCorp Traders (the home faction for TTs)
- Sabine Explorers (the home faction for PSs)
- Sha'ha'dem Explorers (the home faction for JEs)
- Sharim Traders (the home faction for JSs)
- Shinwa Warriors (the home faction for JDs)
NPC Factions
These are the factions associated with various NPC groups that you can befriend or betray.
Moto Factions
These special NPC factions are related to the war in Moto which begins with the mission A Choice To Be Made.
Unofficial Factions
These are factions that provide extra lore and were perhaps originally planned to be implemented as full factions but which do not show up on the Character Information Screen and have no known game play effects. Some even have missions which bizarrely reward faction.
Fractional or Integer Faction Values?
There is some debate as to whether Faction values are stored as floating point values or integers as they are shown with a .0
decimal point in-game (and always .0
) and there are widespread rumors about needing ">= 2001" faction for things when the true value is 2000. The implication being that if you have 1999.96 faction, the game might round that to 2000.0 (???) yet you still can't actually do something that requires 2000, so it's safer to be at 2001. However, I'm highly skeptical about this for a few reasons.
- The
.0
values shown in game - The various faction tables and templates we've created on the wiki as well as a spreadsheet, all of which rely on integer math, and which have proven to be 100% accurate in dozens and dozens of kills of different mobs where every faction value was meticulously recorded before and after. In every case the faction value changes were integer values, and predictable integers based on the mob killed.
- The Net-7 site when viewing a character on your account and going to the Factions tab shows all the values as integers.
If all else fails, use the Net-7 site to verify you have at least 2000 RD rep and I guarantee you that you will be able to use the gates and dock, etc. as I got a character to exactly 2000.0 as shown in game using Mah-jongg tiles, and the Net-7 site also showed 2000, and this character was able to use all the pirate gates and dock at both stations.
Starting Faction
Every Profession begins with a unique starting set of faction values which correspond to how that profession's primary faction relates with others. The professions are not remotely equal in this regard with some being loved far more than others with drastically different gameplay outcomes as a result (e.g. a new Jenquai Defender can enter The Red Dragon space whereas a new Terran Enforcer can't even dock at Grand Ole Homestead!)

Faction Gains and Losses
Below is an improved faction chart which is based upon the original N7 Faction Chart but which also shows the magnitude of the faction changes and has been better labeled to indicate how the chart should be read and organized to be less misleading:
How to Use This Chart
Start by looking at the column for the primary faction of the mob you're killing. So if you are killing an InfinitiCorp Cargo Hauler you would look at the 9th column, "InfinitiCorp Traders". The primary faction of a mob is the one which has the largest loss when killing it. Usually it is fairly obvious based on the name of the mob alone.
Then go down that column and you will see the faction changes (in order matching the in-game list on the faction tab) that will occur based on the absolute value of the primary faction change. For example, if you kill a Red Dragon mob and you lose 13 The Red Dragon faction, then you can see going down the table that you will also gain 50% Centuriata Warriors faction, or +6 (the game truncates the value rather than rounding it, so +6.5 in this case becomes +6). Likewise for a -50% entry, i.e. Psionics in this example, you will lose 6 Psionics faction, or -6.
Improved Faction Chart

Notes about the orientation of this chart
It would perhaps be more logical/natural to have the chart transposed so you would read across the chart rather than down it. This was undoubtedly a constant source of confusion with the legacy faction chart (which is also intended to be read by columns). Here we have maintained the legacy orientation for a few reasons:
- So this chart can be compared side-by-side with the legacy chart and easily found to be identical.
- To avoid introducing further confusion by having two different charts which are read differently.
- So the faction changes you see when killing a mob are oriented the same way as they are seen in-game when killing a mob (which is perhaps why the legacy chart is oriented the way it was).
One orientation-related change that was made here is to flip the every-other black/gray background coloring from rows to columns since the chart is intended to be read by column rather than row.
Known Mechanics
- Not all gains and losses are equal.
- Gains or losses may affect your standing with more than one faction simultaneously (i.e. you will also lose standing with any faction who is an ally of the faction whose ship you've destroyed).
- The chart above provides the full picture. The faction along the diagonal is the primary faction for the mob and it will receive the full value of the loss, whereas other factions in most cases only receive a half value. V'rix and The Red Dragon are the sole exception to this where you will also gain the full value of the opposite one.
- There are no known The Alliance faction mobs in the emu, so the magnitude of these changes are unknown because they can't be tested, but they are colored based on a reasonable guess that they will be half changes just like the majority of other changes.
- Most mobs are not associated with a faction (i.e. no Primary Faction) and therefore there will be no faction changes when killing those mobs (see the second table on List of Faction Changes by Mob).
- In order to see a faction change from a kill, even if grouped, you must 'contribute' to the kill. 2-3 volleys with level 1 weapons against a CL 30 opponent will not be sufficient. Casting a skill, such as Enrage, Menace, Gravity Link, etc should be. More testing is needed to better understand what counts as 'contribution'. NOTE: Any damage seems to work as long as you hit the target. While L1 beams may not do enough L3 and up, regardless of the mob level, work as long as the target takes some damage.
Important Information
Pirate Factions
While there are various types of pirate NPCs, two of these types are numerous enough to have status as recogniised Factions: the Chavez pirates, and the Red Dragon pirates. Both factions control their own stations and star-gates, and unless you have good faction-standing with them, you will not be able to use their facilities.
The Chavez and the RDs both hate each other, and if you shoot one type, you will automatically gain positive reputation points with their opposition. Bear this in mind if you are planning to use the facilities of one or the other. Many players choose to shoot Chavez, as the facilities of the Red Dragons are superior, particularly for high-level pilots.
Most pilot classes start out with negative faction-standing with the pirate factions. Jenquai Defenders are an exception, and are friendly with the RDs from the outset. It is rumoured that it is possible to become friendly with both pirate factions with the help of faction-issued missions.
Caution for Progens intending to do Agrippa
Progens who are intending to take up training in Agrippa technology after reaching OL50 or 75 are cautioned that getting friendly with InfinitiCorp and the Red Dragons may negatively impact on the progress of your studies. You can get chummy with them after you have graduated, though.
Builders
- Note: This section implies a far greater faction impact on analyze/dismantle/build than testing actually bears out, see Analyze for details.
Pilots who aspire to becoming master builders will find that (with the infamous exception of Jove's Fury station), having a high faction standing with a starbase's owners can enhance: (a) your chances of successfully analysing/dismantling an item; and (b) your chances of building ship equipment to a higher level of quality. Orsini Mining Platform is a popular hang-out for many builders for a number of reasons, one being the ease of which you can acquire faction standing with the station-owner, InfinitiCorp, by handing in Manes Essence to Josher in the main lobby. Agrippa students are again reminded that chumminess with the Terran company InfinitCorp is frowned on by its Progen competitor, Collegia Traders - Progen builders should build elsewhere until after their Agrippa training is complete.
