Engines L8:

Equipped Devices L8:

Resist Devices

  • Damage resists (pick one to resist whatever combo the mob is firing at you)
+25% Critical rate does not stack with CFB shield, so Ivory Ward or Tolerance Mk. VIII are better choices if not fighting Mordana.
Device Source Chemical EMP Explosive Energy Impact Plasma Psionic Additional buffs
L8 Good Fortune Mission reward 0 0 +30 +30 0 +30 +30 +25% Critical Rate
L7 Ivory Ward Player made (200%) +40 +40 +0 +40 +40 +40 0
L8 Tolerance Mk. VIII Player made (200%) 0 0 +40 +40 +40 0 +40

Swapped Devices L8:

  • Sting Octo (14% Projectile Damage, 35.51% Projectile Accuracy)

Turbo Devices:

  • 5% Turbo, L7 Aegis of the Warder (Same as Bulwark of the Reaver and Invincible Bastion Shield) Though the durations @100% are 1980, 2100, 2290.

Tanking

As far as Tanking there is more a style change than equipment. You'll want to be using your skills to draw attention instead of just dealing damage. The most important way to quickly get aggro just being more visible. So avoiding weapons like Flechettes or other items that lower your signature makes it harder to be the one shot at first. The good news is that by using either Enrage or Shield Inversion (or both!) you can draw attention near instantly from whoever is being attack instead of you. Other than those two skills the other instant way to get aggro is to use the Gravity Link skill or some of you equipment to lower the enemy's resistances but this usually on it's own won't be enough to hold the enemy's attention(otherwise JE's would have a lot more bad days).

There is some equipment that really helps hold aggro and reduce the damage you take and is listed below.

Weapons

  • Fury of the Master, The Greater Energy Feedback buff on this alone can glue an enemy using energy to you.

Shields

Reactors

  • Heart of the Master, The Greater Counter-Strike buff on this is one of the best at generating aggro and unlike the Fury will work with all types of incoming damage. By far the most important piece to get to be fully equipped.

Engines

  • Obsolete Drone Booster, At 6k this is tied for the highest Signature engine you can equip. Great engine for a group's Tank to have: the enemy start with you, then you work to keep him there.

Devices

  • Mark of the Dragon (Counter-Strike 12.5 damage) (Only listed here for the poor souls that accidentally didn't get the Seal)
  • Lure (+3100 Ship Signature for 210 seconds)

Swapped Devices

Maximum Shield Energy

Achieving the maximum possible shield energy is extremely relevant to both the damage Shield Sap does, AND the healing your group receives from it. The key is to use equipment with Increase Shield Capacity (Equip) that stack (see Effect: Increase Shield Capacity (Equip)) along with strategic buffs from a TT.

*This is not max, but close; max is currently estimated to be ~211,920

Maximum Shield Energy Buffs

Alternate Gear

Weapons - The most important feature you need is the 40% Turbo Projectile which comes easiest from having a player build a Claw of the Dragon but it can also be extremely easy to find a Fury of the Ten-Gu just floating in Cooper near the Tada-O Gate as it has often been replaced by everyone in the guild doing that raid. The only other buff from weapons to consider is the Improved Accuracy which I have listed from the Black Spitter but as that can be hard to get using the player made Archos or less preferably a Longbow Max can be a good solution if you need accuracy until you can upgrade. Alternatively if you do need accuracy but don't want to change your weapons you can use a Decay Octo or Lethargic Octo device for a nice accuracy boost.

  • Shields - Between the two player made Crimson Force Barrier and the Skirmish Omega shields you're pretty well covered as soon as you hit OL140. The others listed a just nice to have.

  • Devices - Too many devices to list that increase specific skills based on the situation. One stand out if partying is the Laser Scope Octo which'll have the JD/JS/JE you're with love you.

KrazeyKami's Alternate Gear

I've written this addendum, since with the above builds, you're always struggling for energy. Projectile range is also an issue, since you won't go above 3.6k without the mentioned Dragon's Fang. We will make clear why this weapon is not a good choice at any rate, even at getting the illustrious 200% build on a ...PW....

I would suggest the following load-out, as it will provide you with these (unbuffed) perks:

  • 11427 / 12267 dps (depending on FoTT / FoTM)
  • 5518 Reactor Capacity
  • 239(!) Reactor Recharge
  • +6 Energy renew /sec surplus, thus never running out of juice when firing
  • 6k+ projectile range
  • 45% projectile turbo (again, unbuffed)
  • 2820(!) Shield recharge /sec
  • 4250 warp + 49% warp charge (engage / cooldown for quick getaways)
  • 512 thrust speed making an ideal kiting speed
  • 9.8k scan range (finally seeing mobs before they see you :))
  • 8.5k signature (Great for tanking / diverting attention from your weaker buddies)
  • 64 deflect on: Impact / Explosive / Plasma / Energy
  • 34 deflect on: EMP / Chemical
  • 30 resist on: Psionic

  • Weapons:

Pretty much as described earlier in this thread:

  • A Fury of the Ten-Gu / Fury of the Master. The Fury of the Master will give you a higher total DPS, around 600 /sec. Both are giving you a shield capacity increase that stacks with the Seal of the Dragon. It's not reflected on the Ship's page on Net-7.org, but it IS reflecting ingame. Might be a bug, but for now it's an extra 9k shield cap. Not sure though if this works as intended with the Seal of the Dragon or the FoTT / FoTM and that they should stack.

And finally, the most important piece: A Brimstone Ballista. The reason for this is the PL range increase, which we will need with this loadout. Yes, a Dragon's Fang also has a PL range increase, but it's at 46% at 100% quality, and 61% at 200%. Good luck building that on your PW. Remember it cannot be traded, and requires you to map that rare drop first, before able to build it (at 200% for those stats). It gives a 3% PL force, but that is making very little difference considering that the DPS for this gun is only 72.5(!) at 100%, and (only) 149.6 at 200%. The BB has better DPS than the DF (154.31% at 200%) and is tradable and thus much more likely to be obtained at 200% for your PW. It gives an additional 896.42 reactor cap, and to top it all off, it gives a 66% PL range increase, again better than the DF.

  • Shields:

Crimson Force Barrier. No doubt about it. The Black Force IX might have a higher cap, but the shield recharge is lower, plus it lacks all the awesome buffs the CFB will give you. At end with this build, a Black Force IX gives you 1572 Shield Recharge /sec... the CFB with this build will give you a total of 2820, nearly twice as much. Can't beat that. That being said, the CFB gives a 25.91% increased crit hit, 5.17 skill levels of Combat Trance (giving a huge increase on PL accuracy, damage resistance, reactor recharge rates and shield recharge). Most importantly, the reactor recharge... with this build, the difference between a CFB and BF (on reactor renew alone) is having +6 renew, or -104. The recharge with the CFB is 239, and with the BF 128. Think that speaks for itself, no?

P.S., The Black Force IX might have a higher cap on the device, but in the end it's only a 7k difference with the CFB. And since high level mobs hit you for atleast twice that amount in one shot, it doesn't make that much of a difference).

  • Reactors:

Black Power IX. This reactor wipes the floor with any (warrior)reactor in game when it comes to reactor recharge, and is key to the 'never run out of juice' build. Plus it gives a nice 5% turbo on your weapons. My earlier build would have a Heart of the Dark One because of the PL range, but the lower reactor recharge would require me to run a Puk's Wing to compensate for the juice guzzler (projectile energy conservation). Even then, you would have a -52 reactor recharge and thus running out of juice.

  • Engines:

The piece de la resistance. You can't go wrong here with this build, but the fact we no longer need to rely on a Puk's Wing for the energy conservation, I would say to pop in an Obsolete Drone Booster. This baby will provide you with a much-needed warp speed increase and warp charge decrease, making the PW no longer the slow-as-hell class they used to be. Even a nice addition to this, would be the immense added high signature (6K), making it perfect for tanking and attracting attention. If you like Shield Inversion, this engine also adds a nice 8.2 dps on that skill. Again, a personal choice and you're pretty much free to choose what u want, but this might be a nice 'fix' for the sluggishly PW.

  • Devices:

Not diving into all the swap / buff devices as the OP has that pretty much covered, but for the 'equipped' devices I would recommend an Intolerance Mk. VIII (39.9% damage increase), Seal of the Dragon (+9020 shield cap which STACKS with the FoTT / FoTM shield cap :)), 70% additional Hull Damage Control, making for a total of 320% with the Combat Trance, and a Good Fortune. This will give you the extra deflects on the ones not covered by Combat Trance. The crit increase will be overruled by the CFB, so just carrying it for your deflects. Another good option would be a Tolerance Mk. VIII. If you could care less about deflects, you have an (much needed) extra device slot for your PW! A Tactical Advantage Beta will give you some nice extra's, and bumps your shield to 148k.

This concludes my alternate build section, hope you like it! Ping me ingame if you want to discuss or have more info to add. -Kami.

Leveling Gear

Here's a link to a forum post about preferred leveling gear.

Weapons

  • L1-L2 Executioner's Finger (accuracy is worth the lower dps), Crossbows with an Executioner's Finger is best.
  • L2 Razor (+warp charge for faster warping, reduced warp cost, +speed)). Use for travel.
  • L3 Bayonets (plasma, chem +warp charge for faster warping, reduced warp cost, +speed)
  • L4 Bayonets (see above)
  • L5 Rifles (destruction to any mob that cannot recharge their shields)
  • L6 Mortars/Longbows (best is a combo), Rifles if you don't mind tearing through a massive amount of ammo.
  • L7 Zenshai Power Cannon (Mortars, Longbows are low dps at this level and eat way too much ammo), Slime Cannon(Not a great DPS gun, good on ammo and gives projectile range)
  • L8 No 1 Most Value PL Type Zet (great for ammo and dps)
  • L8 Claw of the Dragon (40% turbo, pretty much a must have)
  • L8 Silver Hammer
  • Archos (+crit targeting, +PL accuracy, 485% reduced change of damage to weapons)
    • L9 Archos with Claw is standard till you get raid loot or BB weapons.
  • L9 Ten-Gu Reaver if you don't use Juggernaut Mk. VIII reactor or when swapping to a L9 reactor (ypappa).

Shields

Reactors

  • Travel: **Gives you the much desired Turbo Warp(activated), and fast equipment install time
    • Kraken L3-5
    • Unicorn L5-6
    • Unicorn II L7-L8
  • Combat:
    • L2-L5: Nero
    • L5: Nero, Theodosius
    • L6: Foedius vox Redivivus best L6 reactor for ALL classes, has projectile energy conservation (PLs use less reactor). REQUIRES a Power of the Elements device to use). Warrior's Heart, Julius, Theodosius if you cannot get a Foe.
    • L7: L6 Foedius vox Redivivus still best recharge
    • L7 Shooting Star VII (+damage plus activated recharge) - Foe is still best at L7, but if you want to use devices or a lot of turbo, and want to free up a device slot.
    • L7: Warrior's Heart/Julius/Theodosius if you can't get a Shooting Star or Foe.
    • L8: Juggernaut Mk. VIII accept nothing else.
    • L9 stick with the Juggernaut until you get raid reactor or:
    • L9 Shooting Star IX even better than the L7.
    • L9 Ambush Omega if you know an Agrippa builder. An amazing reactor.

Engines

  • Idle Hands - low sig, low warp drain (this is useful until L8 engines/devices)
  • L2: The Range Boosting Engine
  • L3: Range boosting Engine or Solar Sail
  • L4: Range Boosting Engine or Solar Sail
  • L5: Puk's Wing
  • L8: Blackspeed
  • L8 Deadly Breeze pretty amazing if you can get this to drop.

Pretty much engines are mostly junk. Range boosting is questionable as PWs are not likely to kite since they will always be in range of mob attacks even with max range gear. I skipped rest because it's best to leave engine at 5 because you can get lvl4 SS and Puk's Wing. Only 2 you'll use till Blackspeed at 8. (Opinion, but what pretty much everyone does) Lvl4 SS is useful for FB due to 0 Sig. And getting a Zenshai Nav Comp lvl5 Device is very helpful to lower sig paired with Jenq using their Musca device to lower it by 25% so you don't get the attention of everything when you instantly enter (aka Master).

Devices

Pretty much. Things with Shield Cap and Resists. Pavis is a really good one a lot do Explosive. Targe, I see plasma common to. I can't think of energy one. If someone can give you levels of the 2 Wards(Resists) I'll add. Combat Trance Devices are good for PWs also. Then course mining Roc/Harpy combo for looting.
