Prospect Locations Useful Raw Ore Junk Ores |
Notes
- Criteria for inclusion: minimum found in sector listed:
- L1 and L2 -- twenty five
- L3 and L4 -- twenty
- L5 and L6 -- fifteen
- L7 and L8 -- ten
- L9 -- one
- Exception made for resources listed as "rare" -- see notes
- General organization of resources -- L1 resources begin in the noob areas of the Explorer classes. Resource levels increase, in general, as one gets farther away from these sectors. In any given sector, you are more likely to find higher level resources (and guardians) away from the gates, station, and main travel lanes.
- Primus sector (PR) has been removed from the general listings due to the severe infestation of high level V'rix. Resources are only L1 and L2 in the main areas. JEs having combat cloak or better recommended if you must mine there. L7+ still somewhat safe in outlying prospecting areas. {Noted with * where included.}
- Method of measurement -- on a randomly selected day/time, all nodes of all types are harvested in the entire sector and then counted. Due to randomness, results may vary.
- Confused about 'roid types?, check out the Asteroid (Disambiguation Page)!
Known Resources
In total, there are 197 resources in the game. If you wanted to vault all of them, the recommended layout is 1 for L1, L2-3, L4-5, L6-7, and L8-9; so 5 vaults in total. Plus additional vaults for refined, if you so choose. This ensures each vault (which has 96 slots) can hold all the resources with enough room for large transfers.
Level 1
There are 32 types of L1 resources.
The number in () is the number of that ore found by mining every (relevant) roid in the system.

Notes: The intrepid explorer searching for a particular resource should also look in objects labelled with the next higher class [if you're looking for a L4 (example only) you need to check the correct type of objects of L4 and L5.
Should you find a prospecting node with resources inside that are higher than advertised (example -- L6 resources in an L4 prospecting node), you are very likely looking at a pop "rock" -- which can explode when you try to access it.

Resource Counts by...
This section aims to help you prospect with less frustration by letting you evaluate a field and get an idea for how many inventory slots might be needed to prospect said field.

Resources per level by Prospecting Node

Practical Implications
- If you have a lvl 4-6 Pure (meaning the field clear bonus applies when ONLY one type of node is mined) Rock field, you would need: 7 + 5 + 7 + 6 = 25 slots to mine that field out. "But that's 4 numbers, and the field is only 4-6!" Ah, but nodes can always have resources 1 level BELOW their own level. So you have to add in the 6 Rock resource types from L3 as well.
- From the Hull Upgrades page, you can see that a JE or PS would need to be at least OL75 in order to mine this field out. 25/25/25 is level 5 prospect, so the few level 6 resources in the field wouldn't be that big of a problem. But it would take their entire hold, with one slot left for a swapped device or item, to mine out that field. TS holds are big enough that this is not a problem.
- If you have a L4-6 mixed field, with Rock, Hydrocarbon, Crystal, and Glowing, then you would need 19 + 18 + 19 + 18 = 74 slots.
- At OL 75, trader classes have 36 slots. You need 6 slots to trade without frustration, so each character could hold, at most, 30 resource types.
- While you might think "Bring 2 alts and I can hold all the resources!" the reality is that level is the only 'fast' way to separate resources. Not all resources from the same type of prospecting node use the same icon. So unless you plan to move resources constantly to a mule, you'll want 4 alts.
- This also doesn't account for Hulks, which add in even more slot pressure.
- With mixed fields, nodes respawn, so it can often be impossible to clear each node type, only prospecting one at a time, before the first type has started to respawn, making field clear bonuses impossible to earn. Field Clear bonuses are a major source of explore XP, often worth as much XP as prospecting the field out itself. Being deprived of them is harmful.
- There are also fields close to each other in game, like the level 5-9 fields in Lagarto near PAX Decima Gemina, which would take: 18 + 19 + 18 + 24 + 22 + 22 = 123 slots to mine. Because most of those fields are in a Gravity Well, you'll want a TS, but it means the TS is going to have to hold all resources of one level, limiting its Cargo Hold to roughly 1/2 capacity, while 5 alts carry around the remaining resources. That field also contains hulks, so each of the mules will also be carrying around 'Hulk extras'.
- If you're ok with the 120% or so trade XP loss, you can use non-trader characters who do not have negotiate as your mules. This is a decent way to get those alts Explore XP, in case you are not interested in/tired of giving tours.
Autohotkey vault collapse script
Important note: You need to sort your vault by name before running this for best results.
Triggered by windows key - alt - s (when the vault and ship inventory are both open) this will go through and collapse your vault, combining partial stacks.
