Re: Red Dragon's Plasma Spit
Hey! Thanks for your message re: this ammo. Please forgive me if this isn't the proper way to respond (yes, I'm new to doing anything with the Wiki. I didn't even know it existed at all until very recently. I found some of this in my JE's vault when I came back to the game after maybe a year or so away from it, so I must have gotten it from somewhere but I'm not sure where. I think probably from a hulk. I was curious to know if one could get the launcher for it and thus ended up looking on the wiki for it. When I saw that the page for the ammo didn't exist, I figured I'd add it since I had some of the ammo and its stats handy at the time.
—Admiralzeka (talk)
Continuing this convo, it looks like I sadly don't have any of it left after analyzing it with my TT (Sessa, JE is Oreseeker who I mine hulks with. Admiral Zeka was my TE main in live). I will certainly keep a look out for any more of it though!
- Ah, bummer! Good to know it actually exists in the game though, or did anyway!

Found a Faction chart issue
Stat Table Changes?
I would like to discuss changes to the stat portion of the MOB entries.
Some of the ideas include:
- Using a table format to extent the data to the right and get more on screen without scrolling
- Adding an area for Affilation and could it be linked to the rep table? You fill in the faction the Mob belongs to and it will autograb the correct rep table?
- Adding a grid with color coding to the Damage dealt as well as the resists.
- Adding an area for approx credit drops

- FYI have finished fixing sector names, Category:Meta/Page with invalid sector name only has seven Templates left in it, and I've left them alone, hesitant to meddle in the affairs of wizards. I stripped out a bunch of <center> & </center> html tags, as I noticed your template centres everything nicely and those tags were redundant. Probably lots of pages still have such code, but will just keep an eye out for it and strip it when I see it, rather than actively seek it out on all the pages were the sector names were correct.

- I saw that, awesome work! Those templates were originally in there by design; though when I redid all the template documentation pages things kinda became a mess. The original idea was to be able to easily see all the pages which are potentially adding that maintenance category, though that lost some value when there were hundreds of pages in there so I ended up duplicating those lists on a lot of the templates like this anyway. That solution sucks though because it requires me to be vigilant and update all these manually cobbled together lists every time a template gets added to a page. You encouraged me to 1) cleanup those templates being added to maintenance categories and 2) try and track down a better solution for this. Getting more familiar with the MediaWiki API has been on my TODO list, and while I didn't quite find what I was looking for (yet), I did discover some things you may find extremely useful.
- The MediaWiki API has a poorly documented concept called "generators" which allow you to take the results from one API call and pump them into another. Ironically it is best described by the guy who created it here on StackOverflow in these two comments, and on the API documentation page for the Query API (where it has an example):
- As described above, generators are just a shortcut which sends the results to a given Properties API via the
&prop=
query API param or to a given Lists API via the&list=
query API param (each are really a subset of the Query API). You can pass any of these as&generator=
. - So anyway, the point of all this is you can use this to do some super fancy searches, e.g.
- For all the pages which are members (
&generator=categorymembers
) of :Category:Prospectable (&gcmtitle=Category%3AProspectable
) give me the IDs (e.g. namespace ID, 0=Main, 14=Category), Titles (&gcmprop=ids|title
=generator category member properties) (&gcmlimit=max
=generator category members limit, otherwise you only get 10 at a time and have to paste the continue return result onto another API request to get more), and the list of all the categories of which those pages are a member (&prop=categories&cllimit=max
,cllimit
=category list limit, just likegcmlimit
): - https://www.net-7.org/wiki/api.php?action=query&format=json&generator=categorymembers&gcmtitle=Category%3AProspectable&gcmprop=ids
- Relevant documentation for the above:
- https://www.net-7.org/wiki/api.php?action=help&modules=query
- https://www.net-7.org/wiki/api.php?action=help&modules=query%2Bcategorymembers
- https://www.mediawiki.org/w/api.php?action=help&modules=query%2Bcategories
- Or if you want to find all the pages that are both in :Category:Prospectable AND in :Category:Ore (i.e. to exclude the pages like List of Ores, Junk Ores, and Useful Ores which are all in :Category:Ore and just get the actual Ores...) you can do something like this:
- https://www.net-7.org/wiki/api.php?action=query&generator=categorymembers&gcmtitle=Category%3AProspectable&gcmlimit=max&prop=categories&clcategories=Category%3AOre&cllimit=max
- This is not perfect since it still shows all the other Prospectables, but only the ores will be listed with a "categories" sub-element and "Category:Ore" so you can see the ones that are in both fairly easily.
- It's unfortunate the results of these APIs are not themselves links back to the relevant pages, that would be handy!

Picture of a V'rix

Hi Code! I just noticed your upload of a picture of a V'rix (best I've ever seen), and was wondering about it..
It looks too good for a screenshot of T2Z, the V'rix guy in Praeterium Mons station.
Is it art you found, or AI generated, or your own über Photoshop skillz, spiffing up a screenshot?! —Winlander (talk) 13:01, 11 April 2024 (UTC)
- This actually came from a 549 page(!!!) lore dump document I found called "The Earth and Beyond Storyline Reference": https://www.enbx.com/downloads/ebbook.zip. I have been intending to add a lot more stuff from that to the wiki (it's an absolute goldmine) but in truth this kinda stuff (lore) is probably MUCH more firmly in your wheelhouse than mine! Admittedly as far as art goes, I think this V'rix concept art is the crown jewel, most the rest in there are screenshots, but it would be very cool to find the original sources for some of the other logos in there (like the Psionics for example). Have fun!!

New Dynamic Category-Icons!
Hi Code, great work on the new 'expanding' category-icons! I was just looking at Category:Projectile Launcher-L5 and saw your improvement from 2-3 days ago - very flashy (pun intended, but it will go over the heads of younger coders, I guess!)
I was curious about the javascriptiness of your expanding icons, and went exploring your onion-layers of templates (hehe, Codemonkeys love onions!). Am I correct in resting my curious eye on the code
.categoryrounded:hover { transform: scale(1.2); }
found in the Template:CategoryImageLinkGen/styles.css? My head is still whirling a bit from navigating all the layers, but I will later try to get my head around how to create a new icon!
Impressive work, once again! Cheers! — Winlander (talk) 08:56, 24 July 2024 (UTC)
- Well don't be too impressed just yet, I think this may be somehow responsible for our recent performance woes (that darn Codemonkey broke it again!!!); I'm working on finding and fixing that issue.
- The cool thing is none of that is javascript; it's all CSS which means it all happens locally on the clients browser (though javascript also runs on the clients browser).
- Creating a new category icon is pretty simple, the two main parts are {{CategoryImage}} and {{Color}}. To create a new color magicially that will work with {{CategoryImage}} and handle the gradient, etc. You need to find the HSL version of the desired color (e.g. https://www.cssportal.com/css-color-converter/, the one I linked to on the Color page currently seems to be broken), then create a new template using subst like so:
- Template:Color/Winlanders
<!-- watermelon --> {{subst:Color|h=176|s=100%|l=36%}}
- Then make a category image with it like so:
- Template:CategoryWatermelon
{{CategoryImage|Watermelon|color=Watermelon|suppress={{{suppress|}}}}}
- The color= can be omitted in this case since it's the same as the first parameter (the base name of the category) which is the default.
- This was a big hammer solution to the transparency issues but it also completed the work of integrating {{Module:Item}}
