Improving the Main page
Having the initial paragraph text with links interspersed is better at hiding the links than making a useful introduction to the wiki. Basically I recommend turning the colon in 'jot down:' to a period then add the links that came after that in the text to the useful pages list. Another thing I noticed is weird is that New Player Tutorials and Other Tutorials aren't links to either a category or at the least a stub page so someone can work on it but I think both are important enough to eventually be added. On a personal note one other thing I'd like to have added to the useful pages list is some of the guides I'm working on but especially the landing page called High Level Content. Finally as the completely unbiased person that happened to write most of the page in question I'd suggest changing the Agrippa link from the category page to the Agrippa Walkthrough as that is much more useful than the ungrouped list of missions. :) Ralen/Jalitor (talk) 17:38, 9 March 2014 (UTC)
There is now a New_Player_Tutorial/Guide page, can the reference on the main page point to it? And/or a more obvious link to it? -- Zarg 4/26/2018
Is there someone "in charge" of the wiki's Main Page? Does this someone have a list of requested pages/improvements [other than this stub?] I'd like to suggest -- but do not know who to suggest to... (Spock_rhp) 15:12, 22 October 2016 (UTC)
I'd like to "improve" the navigation elements of the Main Page. Best I've been able to find out, no one with the power to make changes is taking an active interest in doing this. ... (Lquan) 19:45gmt 26 Jan 2017
Linkage to Net-7 DB
Is it possible for us to link to items in the Net-7 DB directly....
For instance can we link to a specific device? That allows the information already provided in the database can be referenced via an "external Link" that will allow us to forgo putting all of that information into the Wiki directly.
Secondly, Graphics.. There are many items in the DB that have graphics, and those may change as the devs change them. Can we link to the graphics provided directly without having to download and then upload it to the Wiki? Daath (talk) 15:05, 4 November 2013 (UTC)
- No. It is not possible to link directly to items. Largely because the DB being read is, I believe, a read-only copy of the actual prod database. They do NOT want players being able to just dump the whole thing and parse it. So they have no intention of making lookup any easier, so far as I know. But sometimes a wordsmith can get Shaddex to agree to something I can't. :p For now, either leave the player to be intelligent enough to combine resources, or don't worry about it. My focus with the wiki, personally, is filling in information that doesn't exist anywhere else. If it does exist anywhere else, telling people "Hey, this already exists here!" is a useful step, but not something to focus our time on.
- As for graphics, those are stored in the DB, so the same answer applies as direct-links to items. Kingdud (talk) 22:38, 4 November 2013 (UTC)
- That is unfortunate.. Thanks for the clarification, we'll just have to splice what we need out of the DB and then refer the reader to look it up on their own. My concern is we seem to be gathering pages of build data that is already on the DB and it seems redundant for us to continue that process. Daath (talk) 22:54, 4 November 2013 (UTC)
- Actually, item icons are just graphic files on the server: http://www.net-7.org/images/items/i_pu06.png . To get the particular code, just look it up on the DB and inspect the image. (In Firefox, right-click->view image info)
- Unfortunately, this doesn't help much. First, when the dev's updated item icons, they didn't update the file used by the icon, they created a new file. So we'd have to update the links anyways. Second, this wiki, as configured, doesn't allow links to external images. All you get is [1]
- As for dumping the database, already did. All the item pages on [2] were automatically generated, I didn't do all that by hand. (It's a little out of date now, as it's been about 9 months since I've rescraped the DB and run my updater bot.)
- Finally, if we had access to add javascript to the wiki, then we could cheat our way into showing item info straight from the DB. The calls used by the website to pull DB information are fairly straighforward, and the response can be parsed easily from javascript. Downside is it wouldn't be searchable via wiki mechanisms. - I'd like to rely as little as possible on the net-7 database as we can. By that I mean access to it. Why?
- In case the net-7 admins go ape-shit and remove this wiki (I keep backups) it will be easy to restore elsewhere without lots of tweaking and customization.
- They are prone to changing things when it impedes their ability to remain secret.
- I'd like to rely as little as possible on the net-7 database as we can. By that I mean access to it. Why?
- I wasn't suggesting any deep integration w/ the Net7 DB. At most, I was suggesting something like a pop-up on mouse-over of item links that would show a brief summary of the item stats. It would be useful, but at the same time wouldn't be a big loss if it breaks/disappears. Joethedestroyer (talk) 17:13, 7 November 2013 (UTC)

Maelstorms open
Today (5/3) they put in maelstorm content. We should get a link to that on the wiki front page. Doctor (talk) 16:26, 3 May 2014 (UTC)
Net7 Database Access
I know this is an old discussion but this is a BIG no no. Please do not even Talk about parsing/dumping the Net 7 Database as this will not get a good response. (I am the Lead web dev you know) I may be able to supply links to the DB for items etc, but I would have preferred the Wiki to be kept separate.
Main page Editor / nickname
Would be nice to know who name/nickname can edit the wiki main page ... Or how to get added to the list if possible. It hasn't been touched in over 3 years now, and could use some updates. So many good ideas in the section on how to improve the main page.
